Being a volunteer in a VOLUNTEER CAMP

Legambiente is also a member of a wide network of youth volunteer associations called Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations which promotes youth mobility and commitment with activities in international volunteer camps. The excellent synergy with its partner organizations allows young Italians to be involved in, for many aspects, educational journeys, developing a prolific cultural and linguistic encounter.

WHAT IS A VOLUNTEER CAMP?

Which types of camps are offered?

The camps can be:

• Nationals (just for Italian volunteers)

• Internationals abroad (participants from all over the world, 2 per association, English speaking)

• International in Italy (2 volunteers per Country).

Who?

Everyone can participate at this camps. They are divided by age into teen camps (Under-18) and adults camps (Over-18).

When?

Camps are held throughout the year, although, of course, most of them take place during spring or summer. A list of the camps is published every year in the months of February-March.

How much?

Participation requires the payment of a fee, depending on the camp, which can be found on the specific page on the Legambiente national website. The fee includes room and board for the duration of the camp, but not the costs of transport to e from it. The participant must also pay for a membership card of Legambiente for the current year, which provides insurance coverage. The health coverage (in case of abroad camps), complies with the legal standards of the Community citizens, as for any private trip.

For special camps it can be required an extra fee, which will be easily and clearly flagged, with information about its amount and its nature.

When registered for a camp you will receive from the national office of Legambiente an info sheet with all the logistic and practical information to be fully ready for you camp (things you will need, meeting places, contacts of the camp leader, information about your accommodation and the association that will host you…).

Our Camps

Legambiente Lecco organizes, promotes and manages national and international volunteer camps inside regional parks and natural reserves in the territory.

The club from 2000 has become an office for the coordination of Legambiente’s volunteer camps in Lombardy.

Over the years hundreds of young people from around the world have traveled to Lombardy and participated enthusiastically the camps organized by Legambiente Lecco, stimulating mutual knowledge, cultural and values exchange and bringing home pictures and memories of our views and our land.

Alpe Dosso

Orobie

ALPE DOSSO CAMP

This is one of the two international volunteer camps that Legambiente Lecco organizes inside the Orobie Regional Park in Valtellina.

It is a particularly challenging but fascinating camp, located at a mountain refuge, 1500 meters above sea level in the municipality of Delebio, reachable only by a two hour walk up a steep mountain trail. The harshness of this place has allowed the unaltered and preserved conservation of its natural characteristics, making this location an ideal place to experience a taste of life away from the city’s comforts in close contact with the alpine nature.

The work required to the volunteers, guided by the experience of the local consortium "Montagna Viva", regards the maintenance of the trails, forests and alpine pastures, focusing on the preservation and promotion of a mountain lifestyle which differs from the exploitation of the winter sports industry.

Montevecchia and Valle del Curone

Montevecchia e valle del Curone

The international Legambiente Lecco volunteer camp in the Regional Park Montevecchia and Valle del Curone takes place during the two middle weeks of August.

Housed in “Ca' Soldato”, at the foot of the hill of Montevecchia, foreign volunteers will help in the maintenance of trails and ecosystems of this green lung in the middle of Lombardy. Located only 30 kilometers away from the center of Milan, it is one of the last remains of the former woodland carpet which covered the entire Brianza area and holds true natural treasures, including colonies of crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes italicus), a species in serious danger of extinction which finds a suitable habitat in the numerous streams that flow in the Park.

Volunteers will be welcomed by a big and warm group of Ecological Guards Volunteers who will coordinate the work and offer moments of conviviality and fun during an unique experience of sociality and commitment, in a fascinating environment close to the biggest cities of Lombardy.
